Jaws of Fortune Slot Review
The waterline cuts the screen in two: palm-topped islets and soft clouds above, sunbeams fanning down through turquoise water below. Jaws of Fortune hides its sharpest teeth below that line, too. It looks like a holiday-postcard cartoon, but the reel restrictions underneath it are doing quiet structural work most themed slots never bother with, and the game is better built than its splashy surface suggests.
Stakelogic have built the whole thing around the collision. It runs on a 5×4 grid with 96.01% RTP and high volatility, and every feature feeds the same shark-versus-jet-ski confrontation. Think of it as a cartoon cousin of Bison Blocks and Wild Moon Saloon, with more teeth and a lagoon to spill them into.
How the Base Game Works
The grid is five reels by four rows, and the special symbols do the heavy lifting. A Wild can land on reels 2 to 5 and substitutes for all paying symbols. Beyond that, three characters each have their own job, and each one is a trigger rather than a payer.
- Shark – lands on reels 2, 3 and 4, up to three at once, one per reel
- Jet Ski – lands only on reel 5
- Bonus Coin – lands on reels 1, 3 and 5, with three of them opening the bonus
The paying symbols are the usual beach-holiday assortment: A, K, Q and J alongside goggles, a cooler, a tank, a tooth and a flower. The win potential doesn’t sit with those line pays, though. It sits with the three features stacked on top of them.
Those reel restrictions do real work. A Jet Ski can never show up on reel 3. A Shark can never show up on the outer reels. They’re what keeps the Shark Attack from firing constantly.
Shark and Jet Ski Re-Spins
Land a Shark anywhere on the middle three reels and it locks in place while a re-spin plays out. The Shark acts as a Wild during the base game, so the re-spin comes with a wild already on the board. No further Sharks can land during it.
The Jet Ski works from reel 5 in much the same way. It sticks, a re-spin follows, and no second Jet Ski can appear. The difference is what else can arrive: during a Jet Ski re-spin, one to three Shark symbols can land, and that combination lights the fuse for the game’s centrepiece.
Bonus Coins can land during both types of re-spin, so a re-spin can quietly turn into a bonus trigger. Three things can happen off a single locked symbol.
Shark Attack Feature
The Shark Attack fires when one or more Sharks share the reels with a Jet Ski. If both land on the same spin, it triggers immediately and skips the re-spin altogether. Feature RTP is 28.46%, making this the supporting act financially. The order of events runs like this:
- Sharks transform into roaming Wilds and move towards the Jet Ski, the nearest one first
- Each Shark leaves a trail of Wilds along its path
- The nearest Shark chomps the Jet Ski and replaces it with a Wild
- Remaining Sharks follow, along the same route or a different one
- Any Wild a Shark passes over has its multiplier doubled, x1 to x2 to x4
- Coins stay locked and unaffected; the Sharks vanish on the next spin
Multiple Sharks crossing the same territory can stack a board full of boosted Wilds in a single sequence, which is where the feature’s biggest payouts come from. Because every path a Shark takes leaves Wilds behind it, a three-Shark run can repaint the grid several times over.
Hold ‘N’ Win Bonus
Landing three Bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 in the base game opens the Hold ‘N’ Win round. It begins with three spins, and every new symbol that lands resets the counter back to three. The round ends when the spins run out or every position fills with coins.
Only three symbols appear in the bonus: Coins, Sharks and Jet Skis, so the feature mechanics carry over into the round. Coins land with multiplier values of their own.
- x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, x8, x9 and x10
The total is added up and paid at the end. This is the game’s main event financially, at 50.28% feature RTP, so a full or near-full grid is where the serious money sits.
Bonus Buy
A Buy Bonus option sits in the game’s interface, though the game’s own screens don’t spell out what it buys or at what cost.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
For a game sold on a shark chasing a dog on a jet ski, Jaws of Fortune spends a lot of time waiting. The base game is mostly re-spins and near-misses, and the reason to pick it is the moment that waiting pays off: a Shark finally reaching the Jet Ski and dragging a trail of multiplying Wilds across the board.
The best thing here is that the Shark Attack earns its drama. The reel restrictions mean it can’t fire cheaply, so when three sharks converge at once, the payout mechanics have genuinely been built to match the spectacle. The weakness is where the money actually goes: over half the return sits in a standard Hold ‘N’ Win round, and the coin-collecting format it leans on is one most players have seen many times before.
It suits anyone who still enjoys the Hold ‘N’ Win rhythm and wants some theatre around it. Anyone tired of coin grids will find the lagoon pretty but the engine familiar. Cruz and Bruce put on a good show for those still swimming in these waters.
