Rainbow Riches Crops of Cash Slot Review
Harp, horseshoe, mushroom, leprechaun hat: the reels of Barcrest’s Irish standby, looking exactly as they always have. The difference here isn’t on the symbols, it’s in what a session is for: this is one of the few Rainbow Riches games that rewards staying put, because every leprechaun collected makes the grid taller and every coin worth more, and none of that resets.
It runs at 94% to 96% RTP, set by the casino, with mid to high volatility on a 5×4 grid offering 1,024 ways to win. The ways count is the quiet star: four rows across five reels gives the base game room to breathe, and the collection mechanics give it somewhere to go. Whether the crop comes in is another matter.
Base Game & Features
The reels carry the full Irish kit. Card royals fill the lower end, with the theme symbols sitting above them:
- Harps
- Horseshoes
- Mushrooms
- Leprechaun hats
- The Rainbow Riches logo
- Royal symbols: A, K, Q, J and 10
Wild symbols stand in for the paying symbols and complete combinations that would otherwise miss. They can appear on any of the five reels, and when several land together across the early reels the ways count turns them into a cluster of separate wins in a single spin. The Rainbow Riches logo is the marquee symbol of the set.
With 1,024 ways, the win logic is adjacency rather than lines: matching symbols on consecutive reels from the left count, regardless of which row they occupy. On a five-reel, four-row grid that’s a lot of possible connections, and it’s the reason a single stacked symbol on the early reels can turn into a string of small wins at once.
There’s a knock-on effect worth understanding before the upgrades come into play. The starting 1,024 figure is calculated from the base grid of four rows, and when the collection system adds height, the number of ways grows with it. The reel height upgrade isn’t just cosmetic: every unlocked row multiplies the connection count, which is why the unlock markers read x2, x4 and x6.
Collecting Leprechauns
Leprechauns are the engine of everything else in this game. Every one you collect feeds two systems at once, and both of them keep working spin after spin. It’s a persistent build rather than a one-off award.
Neither system pays anything on its own. A collected leprechaun doesn’t award cash or spins; it moves two meters, and the payout arrives later, when those meters meet the coin feature. That’s the whole design: a session-long build with one payout event at the end of it.
The order of events runs like this, spin by spin:
- A leprechaun lands and is collected
- The coin multiplier meter advances, lifting the value of every coin
- The reel height meter advances towards the next locked row
- At x2, x4 and x6 thresholds, a locked row opens and joins the grid
- When six or more coin scatters land, the Crops of Cash feature pays out the upgraded values on the enlarged grid
Reel Height Upgrade
Collecting leprechauns increases the reel height. Rows start locked, marked x2, x4 and x6 to unlock, and each unlocked row adds height to the grid. More rows means more symbols in play, and more ways for the growing win system to connect.
The unlock markers double as a progress bar. At x2 you’re one row taller; at x4 and x6 the grid keeps growing, and the locked-row indicators sit on the reels as a running reminder of how far the session has come. It’s a visible, permanent upgrade: once a row is in, it stays in.
Coin Multiplier Upgrade
The second half of the collection system targets the coins. Leprechauns you collect upgrade all coin multipliers, so the coins already on the grid and any that land later carry better values. The two upgrades run in parallel: the same leprechaun that grows the grid also fattens the coins.
The “all” matters. A multiplier upgrade lifts every coin the game can show, not a single one, which is what turns a modest scatter count into a meaningful feature. Two systems rising from the same input also means there’s no dead collect: every leprechaun does something, even in a stretch where nothing else lands.
Because the upgrade applies to coins that haven’t appeared yet, the value of the feature keeps rising the longer the session runs. A coin landing on the first spin and the same coin landing after fifty leprechaun collections are different propositions, and the gap between them is the whole point of persisting the multipliers rather than resetting them.
Rainbow Riches Crops of Cash Bonus Features
Crops of Cash
The headline feature triggers on coins. Land six or more coin scatters anywhere on the grid and the Crops of Cash feature begins. The coins you’ve been upgrading all session are the payload here: every leprechaun collected beforehand has raised their multipliers, so a feature hit late in a session lands harder than an early one.
The trigger list is short:
- Six or more coin scatters trigger Crops of Cash
- Collected leprechauns upgrade all coin multipliers before and during play
- Collected leprechauns also unlock reel height rows at x2, x4 and x6
The two collection systems feed this one moment. By the time six coins arrive together, the grid is taller than it started and every coin carries its upgraded multiplier, so the feature pays out of everything the session has built. An early trigger, before the leprechauns have done their work, is the weak version of the same event.
The design is a slow ramp. Nothing about the coins is generous on its own; the value comes from the multipliers stacked onto them by the time the feature fires. Mid to high volatility fits that shape, since the build can run long before it pays.
Scatter placement doesn’t matter for the trigger itself. Six coins anywhere on the grid counts, so rows unlocked by the height upgrade do double duty: they’re more positions on which the sixth coin can land, as well as more positions on which winning symbols can connect. The taller your grid, the easier both halves of that become.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Playing this one feels less like chasing a bonus and more like tending it. The leprechauns land, the grid creeps taller, the coins fatten, and somewhere down the line six of them arrive together and the field pays out. That slow build is the reason to sit down at this machine rather than any other game wearing the same green.
At its best, the two upgrades pulling from one collect make an hour-long session feel like it went somewhere. The weakness is just as real: the ramp is long, and an early feature hit before the leprechauns have done their work pays like a shrug.
This one’s for players who like watching a session accumulate and don’t mind lean stretches between payouts. Anyone after quick, frequent bonuses will find the wait a chore. For the patient, there’s a decent harvest at the end of the rainbow.
