Shields of Fury

Shields of Fury Slot Review

Dawn on a Norwegian fjord, longships moored beneath the cliffs, gulls circling the cliffs and a dragon-prowed longship riding the still water. The scene is storybook-pretty, which is a small misdirection: Shields of Fury is a patient collect game where nearly all the real money rides on a single reel. The calmest stretch of water on screen hides the roughest arithmetic in the game.

Indigo Magic has made the paylines the least interesting thing here. It’s a 5×4 grid with 20 lines, but the money sits in the bonus round’s middle reel, where multipliers run up to 100x while the outer reels stop at 20x. That gap, and a prize ladder that tops out lower than you’d expect, is what shapes every session.

Base Game & Features

The base game runs on a 5×4 grid with 20 fixed paylines, and only the highest win on each line is paid. A wild substitutes for all symbols except the cash symbols, the Cash Collect symbols and the mystery symbols, so it’s help for the line pays and nothing else. Between the wild and the mystery symbols, the line game keeps ticking over while the cash symbols accumulate.

Cash Symbols and the Prize Ladder

Cash symbols can land on any spin, base game or bonus, and each one carries a prize printed on its face. They don’t form winning combinations themselves; they sit on the reels as raw value waiting to be collected. The ladder they draw from, in multiples of the bet:

• 0.25x
• 0.3x
• 0.5x
• 0.75x
• 1x
• 1.25x
• 1.5x
• 2x
• 3x
• 5x
• 7x
• 10x

Twelve rungs, and the spacing tells you how the game is built. There’s a cluster of small steps between 0.25x and 2x, then a jump to 3x and a long tail to 10x the bet at the top. In the base game those prizes are worth collecting one at a time; in the bonus round, the same ladder feeds symbols that can sit under a multiplier wheel.

Cash Collect

Land one or more cash symbols anywhere alongside a Cash Collect symbol and the collect fires, awarding the sum of every cash prize on the reels in a single payout. A maximum of two Cash Collect symbols can appear on a single spin, so the biggest base game collects are capped at two sweeps of the board.

In the bonus game the rules change. A Cash Collect symbol gathers the prizes on its own reel only, then turns into a cash symbol carrying the amount it collected, and the symbols it took stay on the reels. That matters more than it sounds: the collected value stays in play for the rest of the feature, where a wheel multiplier can later apply to it.

Mystery Symbols

Mystery symbols can land during the base game. Each one flips into a single randomly chosen paying symbol, the same symbol across all of them, excluding cash and Cash Collect symbols. They’re there to keep line wins alive while the cash symbols do the slow work of building towards the bonus.

Shields of Fury Bonus Respins

Five or more cash symbols anywhere on the reels during the base game triggers the bonus respin feature. The triggering symbols transfer to the same positions in the feature, which plays out on a different layout: four reels of four positions each, with the middle reel stretched to six. Only cash symbols, Cash Collect symbols and Pop n’ Split symbols can land.

You start with three respins, and the sequence runs the same way every time. Each new symbol that lands locks in place for the remainder of the feature and resets the respin count to three. A respin that brings nothing new costs one respin. The reels spin automatically between locks, so there’s nothing to decide once the round begins.

The round ends one of two ways: the respins run out, or every position on the board is filled. When it ends, the sum of all cash prizes on screen is awarded, with any activated wheels applied first.

Wheel Multipliers

Filling a reel vertically activates that reel’s multiplier wheel, and when the respins end each activated wheel selects one value at random and multiplies the cash prizes on its reel:

• Reels 1, 2, 4 and 5: x2, x5, x10, x20
• Reel 3: x10, x20, x50, x100

The middle reel is the one that matters. Six positions instead of four means it’s harder to fill, and the reward is a wheel that starts where the outer reels finish. Its floor, x10, matches the third step of every other wheel; its ceiling is five times anything the outer reels can reach.

Pop n’ Split

A Pop n’ Split symbol expands into four parts, each filled with a cash prize drawn from the same ladder as the cash symbols. The highest of the four values is then duplicated into the remaining three parts, so the symbol always pays its best possible prize four times over. If all four spaces happen to show the same value, they remain as they are.

Filled boards pay extra. Take every position on the reels and an additional 100x your current bet is awarded on top of everything on screen. That’s the ceiling in practice: a full board of top prizes, every wheel on its highest value, and the fill bonus stacked on top.

Bonus Buy

For 75x the current total bet you can skip the wait and start the respin feature directly from the base game. The buy’s return to player is 95.98%.

Our Honest Verdict

Overall Rating: 7.1/10

Playing Shields of Fury is mostly waiting: cash symbols stack up spin after spin, the line game chugs along on wilds and mystery flips, and nothing much happens until five of those symbols arrive at once. That long build is exactly why somebody picks it, and the fjord at dawn suits the pace better than a raging battlefield would.

The best thing here is that the bonus round has a spine. Filling the middle reel is genuinely hard and genuinely rewarded, so there’s a real target to chase rather than a flat pile of locked coins.

The ladder is the drag. With cash prizes stopping at 10x the bet, the wheels aren’t an accelerator, they’re the whole engine room, and a bonus that lands without them activated pays like a base game win. That makes it a game for collect-feature players who enjoy a grind towards one make-or-break reel, and a thin one for anyone who wants the base game to pay its own way. If slow water runs deep for you, this fjord is worth a voyage; if you want rapids, keep rowing.
