Twofold the Gold

Twofold the Gold Slot Review

A fat bronze pot spills gold coins and gems across a deep-green clover field, while a gilded treasure chest hovers above the reels trailing sparkles and stray shamrocks. Twofold the Gold doesn’t finish switching on until two hundred spins in: the reels you meet in the first ten minutes are the least interesting thing about it. The real game is everything quietly stacking up behind them.

High Limit Studios builds it on a 5×3 grid with 25 fixed paylines, a 96.01% RTP and a 24.56% hit rate, with stakes from 0.25 to 40.00. It sits in the same stable as Fivefold the Gold, Fourfold The Gold and Boomstick Bill 2. The ceiling is a fully boosted Mega wheel prize of 5000x the bet.

Base Game & Features

This is a straightforward five-reel, three-row slot. Wins pay left to right across 25 fixed lines, and only the highest winning combination on a payline is awarded. If multiple winning combinations land on a single line, the highest one is what you’re paid. Wilds land on reels two to five and substitute for everything except Scatters, Mushrooms, Boosters, Trigger symbols and Prize symbols.

The paytable pays out at the per-line bet as follows:

• Barrel: 2.00 for three, 8.00 for four, 16.00 for five
• Horseshoe: 1.60 for three, 6.40 for four, 14.00 for five
• Beer Mug: 1.20 for three, 5.60 for four, 12.00 for five
• Pipe: 0.80 for three, 2.40 for four, 6.00 for five
• Spade: 0.80 for three, 2.40 for four, 6.00 for five
• Heart: 0.80 for three, 2.40 for four, 6.00 for five
• Club: 0.40 for three, 2.00 for four, 4.80 for five
• Diamond: 0.40 for three, 2.00 for four, 4.80 for five

Lucky Levels

Lucky Levels are the heart of the base game. Each level unlocks after a set number of base game spins and stays active, so a long session plays very differently to a short one. They stack, too: by 200 spins all four are running at once.

• Lucky Level 1 – 20 base game spins. A Magic Hat can randomly appear and add Wilds or Prize symbols to reels two to four.
• Lucky Level 2 – 50 base game spins. Five Wheel Bonus Boosters are added to the reels, and landing them increases the Wheel Bonus prizes.
• Lucky Level 3 – 100 base game spins. A Trigger symbol is added to reel one, and the reel one Free Spin Multiplier meter is activated.
• Lucky Level 4 – 200 base game spins. A Minimum Win from 20x to 200x the total bet is guaranteed for all Free Spins features.

Express Collect

Land a Trigger symbol on reel five, or on reel one once Lucky Level 3 is active, alongside Express Collect Prize symbols on the other reels, and the feature fires. Before that level unlocks, reel five is the only Trigger position in the game. It pays the total of all displayed prize values for each Trigger symbol that has landed, so two Triggers in one spin gather the money twice over.

Prize values are credit values running from 0.8x to 200x the bet. It’s a simple collect at heart: the symbols show their money, the Trigger gathers it, and the total lands in the balance.

Wheel Bonus

Any Prize symbols appearing on screen without a Trigger symbol may randomly trigger the Wheel Bonus, and that can only happen in the base game. One spin of the wheel awards one of five fixed prizes:

• Mega: 1250x the bet
• Major: 200x the bet
• Minor: 50x the bet
• Maxi: 10x the bet
• Mini: 5x the bet

Wheel Bonus Boosters

From Lucky Level 2, Booster symbols can randomly appear on other symbols in the base game, and each one doubles the prize it matches. Boosted values are stored per bet, so the wheel you eventually spin reflects every Booster you’ve banked. Everything resets to the initial values once the Wheel Bonus completes.

• Mega Booster doubles the Mega prize, up to a maximum of 5000x
• Major Booster doubles the Major prize, up to 800x
• Minor Booster doubles the Minor prize, up to 200x
• Maxi Booster doubles the Maxi prize, up to 80x
• Mini Booster doubles the Mini prize, up to 40x

Twofold the Gold Bonus Features & Free Spins

Free Spins

Land three Scatters on reels two, three and four and you’re awarded 10 Free Spins. Bets and lines stay the same as the triggering spin, and three Scatters during the round retrigger another ten. Wins from the feature are added to base game wins.

Free Spin Multipliers

A multiplier meter sits on top of reel five from the start, and a second one activates above reel one from Lucky Level 3. The multipliers build in the base game and carry into the round, where they apply to Express Collect features according to which reel the Trigger symbol lands on. A Trigger on reel one takes the reel one multiplier; a Trigger on reel five takes the other.

Mushroom Symbol

Mushrooms can randomly appear on other symbols in the base game, outside Scatters, Prize symbols, Boosters and Triggers. Each one adds 0.5x to the reel five meter, or randomly to either meter once reel one is live. The cap on any multiplier is 10x.

When the Free Spins finish, you pick whether to reset the multipliers or keep them. That choice is the quiet decision in the game: banked multipliers make every future collect in the round worth more.

Free Spin Minimum Win

From Lucky Level 4, every Free Spins feature carries a guaranteed Minimum Win. It starts at 20x and climbs by 5x whenever a Free Spin Multiplier increases, up to a maximum of 200x in the base game. If the round finishes below that figure, the total is topped up to match. The floor and the multipliers rise together, so a game that’s fed plenty of Mushrooms carries both.

After each round the Minimum Win resets to between 20x and 80x. It’s a floor rather than a promise, but a fully warmed-up game can’t hand back pennies from its headline round.

Our Honest Verdict

Overall Rating: 7.7/10

Playing Twofold the Gold is like minding a pot that only fills while you’re standing next to it. The first fifty spins are ordinary Irish luck, and you choose it for one reason: nothing you do in that stretch is thrown away. Boosters bank into the wheel, Mushrooms creep the multipliers up, and by the time the Free Spins arrive the game is a different animal entirely.

The Boosters are the best thing here: a Mega prize that doubles every time its symbol lands, stored per bet until it reaches 5000x. Everything interesting happens in the wheels and the collects.

That makes it a session slot, and a good one, for players who enjoy the long build. Anyone after big reel wins in the first ten minutes won’t find them. But the leprechaun’s hoard was never gathered in an afternoon, and this game saves its gold for the ones who stay.
