Densho is a Japanese term that means ‘to pass on to the next generation, or to leave behind a legacy’, and Hacksaw has done a tremendous job of making it immersive. The art style is absolutely gorgeous with Japanese sumi-e ink style graphics. It bursts to life with swathes of colour, making it a real spectacle to behold.

We know art style isn’t at the top of everyone’s list, but art like this can really make a game, in our opinion. Of course, Hacksaw isn’t renowned for just their creative ability in the art department, but their prowess in making highly capable slots too. If the two worlds collide in their latest instalment, then Densho could prove to be quite the anticipated title.

 

Densho Base Game and Features

Densho is a 5-reel Video slot with 10 fixed pay lines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbols land from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.

The minimum bet available here is £.€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £.€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. Densho has a theoretical RTP of 96.4% and a max win cap of 10,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Samurai, followed by the Geisha, Owl, Stork, and Bridge. Low-paying symbols fall to a number of Japanese symbols. Wilds substitute for all High and Low-paying symbols.

Wild Multiplier Reels

During the base game, whenever a Densho symbol lands in view, it will expand into a Multiplier reel if it would be part of at least one winning combination once expanded.

Multiplier Reels act as Wilds, substituting for all High and Low-paying symbols. Once expanded, the Multiplier is applied to each winning combination they are a part of.

If a winning combination includes multiple Multiplier Reels, their multiplier values will be added together and applied to the win. Each Multiplier value is determined by the quality of the Densho symbol, as follows.

• Common Densho –  Awards between x2 and x10.
• Rare Densho – Awards between x5 and x50.
• Legendary Densho – Awards between x10 and x100.

Densho Free Spins

Landing 3 Scatter symbols across the reels during the base game triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 10 Free Spins.

During Free Spins, there are special Progression Trackers above each reel.  Each Progression Tracker will reveal the lowest possible quality of Densho symbol that can land for that particular reel.

Landing an Upgrade symbol during this time will level up the Progression Tracker of the corresponding reel. As the quality of the Densho symbols upgrade, so do the minimum Multiplier values on the Multiplier Reels.

Landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters during this time will award an additional +2 and +4 Free Spins respectively.

Super Free Spins

Landing 4 Scatter symbols across the reels in the base game triggers the Super Free Spins round, awarding 10 Free Spins.

Densho: Our Verdict

We’re trying to keep our bias for enthralling Japanese-themed slots out of the picture, but why should we? It’s a beautiful culture and Densho is a beautiful representation of it made manifest in the world of slots.

When you load it up you’re greeted with something that is instantly appealing, and instant appeal can be the difference between going elsewhere or staying for a flutter. Densho definitely deserves a look on visuals alone, and familiar Hacksaw mechanics make it even more appealing to die-hard fans.

The 10,000x win potential makes it capable, and the staple multiplier mechanics make it a Hacksaw classic in many ways.

Overall, Densho isn’t a mechanical far cry from anything we’ve ever seen. The mechanics have been seen before, but we’ve never seen Japan portrayed so beautifully. If you’re a fan of previous Hacksaw Games and if you’re craving a new way to experience familiar mechanics, then Densho is for you.
