Rainbow Princess Slot Review
Rainbow Princess hides a cold streak of maths behind its pastel sky kingdom. It looks like a soft fairytale, all clouds and coloured light arcing across a calm sea, but the clusters on their own barely pay and the entire 10,000x ceiling rests on multipliers that double with every win they touch. Hacksaw Gaming have made the gentlest-looking game in their royal line also one of the most patient.
The interesting thing about Rainbow Princess is that it’s a multiplier game wearing a fairytale dress. It runs on a 6×5 grid with cluster wins, pays out at 96.36% RTP, and caps winnings at 10,000 times the bet. Multipliers that double with every win they touch do the heavy lifting, as they do in Dusk Princess and Cloud Princess, two of the studio’s other royal outings.
Base Game & Features
Wins land as clusters of five or more matching symbols anywhere on the 6×5 grid. Every winning combination triggers a Super Cascade: all symbols of the winning type are removed, and new ones drop down to fill the gaps. Chain enough clusters together and a single spin can run for a while.
The pays are all multiples of the total bet. From the top of the table down:
- Red Crown – 1.5x for five, up to 100x for 15 or more
- Gold Medallion – 1x for five, up to 80x for 15 or more
- Purple Crystal – 0.8x for five, up to 60x for 15 or more
- Heart Pendant – 0.7x for five, up to 40x for 15 or more
- Green Pendant – 0.6x for five, up to 25x for 15 or more
- Amber Gem / Red Gem – 0.3x for five, up to 15x for 15 or more
- Blue Gem / Purple Gem – 0.2x for five, up to 10x for 15 or more
- Green Gem – 0.1x for five, up to 8x for 15 or more
That top tier is where the 10,000x ceiling has to come from, and it can’t come from clusters alone. The crown pays 100x even for a perfect 15-symbol hit. Everything above that is multiplier work.
Magic Frame Multipliers
Whenever there’s at least one winning cluster on the grid, Magic Frame Multipliers can appear at random positions. A frame activates when its position forms part of a winning cluster, and its value multiplies that cluster’s payout. The possible starting values:
- 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x or 100x
Frames stack their effects in an unusual way. If two or more land in the same winning cluster, their values add together first, then the combined figure multiplies the win. It’s addition rather than multiplication between frames.
The frames stay put through the cascades, and each one doubles when it takes part in another win, applying its new value to every subsequent win it joins. That doubling is the engine of the whole game.
Once the cascades finish, all frames clear away for the next spin.
Aurora Gems
During cascades, an Aurora Gem can land. It activates before any wins are paid, and its value multiplies every Magic Frame Multiplier on the grid at once. Values run from x2 up to x10, and only one Aurora Gem can be on the grid at a time. Once it has applied its multiplier, it disappears.
It’s a simple symbol with a large effect. An Aurora Gem landing mid-chain takes every frame the spin has built and multiplies them all, and the doubled frames keep doubling from their new values afterwards.
A wild symbol also appears on the grid, standing in for the regular paying symbols.
Rainbow Princess Bonus Games & Free Spins
Three FS scatter symbols landing at the same time in the base game open the first bonus. Four open the second. Five open the third. Each one awards 10 free spins and builds directly on the last.
Tiara Treasure
Tiara Treasure keeps every base game mechanic and adds Sticky Progressive Magic Frame Multipliers. Frames no longer clear between spins: they hold their positions and their values for the whole round, growing through wins and Aurora Gems alike.
More FS symbols during the round extend it: two at once add two spins, three at once add four. The floor of the round is the base game with a memory, which is a decent floor.
Make It Rainbow
Triggered by four FS scatters, Make It Rainbow keeps everything from Tiara Treasure and adds a Rainbow Rush Bar beside the grid. Every winning cluster fills the bar, with bigger clusters filling it faster.
A full bar, once the grid settles, distributes between three and five wild symbols onto the reels. It then resets and starts filling again, for as long as free spins remain. 10 spins with sticky frames and recurring wild drops is where this game’s middle gear lives.
Throne of Starlight
Five FS scatters at once is a rare event, and it opens the Hidden Epic Bonus, Throne of Starlight. Every position on the grid starts with a Sticky Progressive Magic Frame Multiplier already attached, each worth a minimum of 4x.
FS symbols can’t land in this mode, so the 10 spins are all you get. With thirty sticky frames doubling and stacking from the first cascade, that’s not necessarily a problem. It’s the round the other two are building towards.
A Bonus Buy button also sits in the game’s bottom-left corner, though no pricing for it is published.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Playing Rainbow Princess is a long exhale followed, sometimes, by a gasp. Most spins are quiet: clusters pay small, the artwork glows, and nothing much happens. Then a chain catches, frames double and redouble, an Aurora Gem lands and every one of those frames multiplies at once, and the quiet is suddenly expensive. That possibility is the reason to sit down at this particular sky kingdom.
Its best idea is the scatter ladder. Because five scatters hand you a grid already carrying thirty sticky multipliers, the top bonus isn’t a shinier version of the others, it’s a different game entirely, and the whole build pays off in one place.
The weakness is everything before that payoff. The lower bonus rounds play much like the base game until the frames accumulate, and there’s no published maths beyond the 96.36% to suggest the wait is worth it.
This is one for players who enjoy watching a multiplier grow and don’t need constant action to stay interested. Anyone who wants big hits from the first spin won’t find them here. Stay patient and the crown pays like one.
