Rainbow Rush

Rainbow Rush Slot Review

Enter the enchanting Irish world of rolling hills, glowing rainbows, and hidden pots of Gold in Slotmill’s latest release, Rainbow Rush!

Rainbow Rush spreads its lucky Irish charm across a 5×6 reel setup and 20 fixed pay lines, offering players the chance to land wins worth up to 12,000x their bet. At the centre of the action are Rainbow Wilds and Multipliers that can climb as high as x6.

Follow the path to the Golden Pots Free Spins mode, where Rainbow Wilds appear more frequently, illuminating the reels with added win potential. If luck happens to be on your side, the Super Free Spins mode may also be activated, transforming all existing Rainbow Wilds into Golden Expanding ones that spread in different directions.

The charming Irish theme has appeared in hundreds, if not thousands, of slot games over the years, particularly through land-based Casinos where it sits comfortably alongside other classic aesthetics. With modern improvements to graphics and soundscapes, the familiar Irish setting has been refined for today’s players, while preserving the spirit that made the theme so popular in the first place.

After setting off on an Aztec-themed journey in Lucy Luck and the Quest for Coins, our expectations are high for Slotmill’s next release, but where will Rainbow Rush land when it comes to ranking among their recent games? Let’s find out…

Base Game & Features

Rainbow Rush is the latest very high-volatility release with 5 reels, 6 rows, and 20 fixed pay lines. Paytable symbols result in winning combinations when 3, 4, or 5 land upon reels 1-5, so long as they fall within connecting pay lines.

The Leprechaun has the highest pay value, which sits between 2x and 20x your bet, followed by the Horseshoe, Clover, Harp, Beer, Pipe, and A, K, Q, & J royals. Outside of the highest-paying symbol, winning combinations award a fixed payout between 0.4x and 15x your bet.

Wild Symbols

Throughout gameplay, you will stumble across 3 types of Wild symbols, each able to land on a single reel at any time and award the following Modifier:

• Wild: Substitutes for the highest winning combination on an active pay line according to the paytable.
• Expanding Wild: Expands downwards until it reaches the bottom of the reel, acting as a Wild for every position it covers. As it expands, each position increases the Multiplier by +x1, up to a maximum of x6.
• Golden Expanding Wild: Expands upwards and downwards until it covers the entire reel, awarding a Multiplier of x6.

If more than 1 type of Expanding Wild is part of the same win, their Multipliers will add together before being applied to any wins they are a part of.

Rainbow Rush: Free Spins

Landing 3 Bonus Scatters in the base game triggers the Free Spins mode, awarding 8 Free Spins. During this mode, there is an increased chance of landing any of the 3 Wild symbols. Lastly, landing a ‘+1 Spin’ symbol awards an additional +1 Free Spin to your total.

Super Free Spins

Alternatively, landing a Super Bonus Scatter during this time upgrades your current session to Super Free Spins, awarding +2 Free Spins. In this mode, all 3 Wild symbols are transformed into Golden Expanding Wilds. Landing the ‘+1 Spin’ symbol awards an additional +1 Free Spin for every symbol landed.

Bonus Buy

Eligible players may purchase any of the following Bonus Buy options:

• 3 Wilds: Each spin guarantees 3 Wild symbols to appear in random positions for 20x your bet (96.15%)
• 5 Wilds: Each spin awards up to 5 Wilds in random reel positions for 60x your bet (96.22%)
• Free Spins: Guarantees the standard Free Spins mode in the next spin for 100x your bet (96.32%)
• Super Free Spins: Instant access to the Super Free Spins mode for 400x your bet (96.33%)

Rainbow Rush has a maximum win capacity of 12,000x your bet. If a single session exceeds this, the player returns to the base game with the qualifying amount.

Our Honest Verdict

Rainbow Rush delivers quite an impressive set of visuals we’ve come to expect from a Slotmill release, wrapped in the familiar luck and charm of an Irish-themed slot. After the more intense & focused atmosphere of Tiki Thunder, we’re shifted in a lighter direction, offering a more relaxed and playful experience.

While the Irish theme is hardly new territory for us, it’s a fresh direction for Slotmill, which typically leans into darker, blood-soaked worlds in games like Tyrant’s Fall, Emberfall 40K, and Ragnarok 40K. While we’re not opposed to a bit of chaos and carnage, it’s refreshing to see this provider reveal their softer side, something that has started to become more noticeable in their recent releases.

Rainbow Rush has everything you would expect from a traditional Irish slot, including a cheeky Leprechaun as the game’s highest-paying symbol and a backdrop of an enchanted forest with all the magical trimmings. What is less obvious is the presence of 3 distinct Wild symbols, each capable of triggering its own modifier, including Wilds that expand in different directions.

During Free Spins, these Wild symbols appear more frequently, increasing the likelihood of triggering their modifiers & awarding larger payouts. If you manage to land the Super Bonus Scatter, the current mode is upgraded to Super Free Spins. In this enhanced mode, all Wilds become Golden Expanding versions, boosting their impact on the reels and making the 12,000x max win potential feel more within reach.

All in all, Rainbow Rush is an entertaining take on the classic Irish theme, with creative Wild features and a strong visual design, although the familiar setting does not make it feel especially groundbreaking compared to other titles in Slotmill’s portfolio.
