Wanted Unusual Suspects Slot Review
A dusty frontier town at midday, a bank on one side of the main street and a saloon on the other, and a leaning timber post outside nailed with four jackpot plaques: GRAND, MAJOR, MINOR, MINI. Wanted Unusual Suspects is a slot where the paytable barely matters. Nearly every win worth having routes through the Sheriff, who sweeps up the coins the reels have been quietly hoarding, and the game is built to make you care about that hoard far more than any five-of-a-kind.
Northern Lights Gaming‘s outlaw caper runs on a 5×4 grid with 20 fixed paylines, 96.05% RTP and high volatility, with stakes from 0.10 to 20.00. It’s the third slot to wear the Unusual Suspects badge, after Unusual Suspects in 2023 and the Ultra Link&Win follow-up, and it pushes the series furthest into build-and-collect territory.
Base Game & Features
Wins pay left to right across the 20 fixed paylines, and only the highest combination counts per line. The line pays themselves are modest. Multiples below are of the line stake.
- Coin symbols (Cash Prizes): 25x, 30x, 50x and 100x for two, three, four and five
- Sack of Gold: 1x, 2.5x and 10x for three, four and five
- Dynamite: 0.5x, 1x and 5x for three, four and five
- Pistols: 0.2x, 0.5x and 3x for three, four and five
- Q, J and 10: 0.1x, 0.3x and 1x for three, four and five
Coins are the exception to the modest paytable. Each one displays a cash prize or one of the four jackpots, and only one jackpot can land per spin. They’re collected, not lined up, and the sheriff does the collecting.
The Outlaw Wild is a full wild that substitutes for everything except the Sheriff, Coin and Scatter symbols, and can form its own winning line. It’s also the loudest thing in the base game.
Outlaw Wilds & the Exploding Wild
When an Outlaw Wild lands, it explodes into more wilds. Only one can arrive per spin, and what it does varies: it might turn the top and bottom symbols of two random reels wild, turn one or two whole reels wild, or scatter wilds across four to seven random positions.
It’s a chunky modifier on a 5×4 grid. Two full reels of wilds will light up most of the paylines at once, which goes some way to offsetting those thin line pays.
Sticky Frames
Every Coin that lands leaves behind a x1 Sticky Frame in its position. Each additional coin landing in a frame increases its multiplier, up to a ceiling of x5. The frame multipliers only apply when the Sheriff collects, so they’re dormant value sitting on the reels.
In the base game, frames are cleared at the end of the Sheriff Backup bonus. During Free Spins they persist for the whole round, which is where the maths gets interesting.
Sheriff Backup Bonus
The Sheriff symbol triggers the backup. He populates every Sticky Frame on the reels with fresh Coin symbols, can place up to two backup Sheriffs of his own, and then each Sheriff collects all the Coins in view with the frame multipliers applied. It works in both the base game and Free Spins.
Bonus Perk Bar & Nudging Scatter Respin
Two Scatters in a spin add a token to the Bonus Perk Bar, and 50 tokens fill it. A full bar buys an extra perk pick when Free Spins trigger, then resets. Progress is saved per bet level, so changing stakes means changing bars.
Two Scatters on the top three rows also trigger a nudge respin: the Scatter reels hold and push down one row while the rest respin, continuing until a Scatter reaches the bottom row or five Scatters land. If two Scatters survive the respin, a token goes into the bar anyway. Three or more during the feature trigger Free Spins directly.
The maximum win is 10,025x your stake. The practical ceiling is whatever the jackpots, coin values and frame multipliers stack into a single collection.
Wanted Unusual Suspects Free Spins & Bonus Rounds
Scatters pay out in spins rather than cash. Three of them start the round at 10 Free Spins, four at 15 and five at 20. Scatters are base-game symbols, outside the reach of the wilds, and the round plays out automatically at the triggering bet.
Bonus Perk Pick
Every Free Spins entry starts with a pick: choose an outlaw to reveal a perk. Up to five perks can stack, and a filled Bonus Perk Bar adds an extra pick.
- Free Spins Boost: unlocks the first Bandit on the Bonus Trail and awards five extra spins with a x2 multiplier
- More Spins: two extra spins
- More Frames: three Sticky Frames added at the start
- More Wilds: extra wilds land during the round
- More Sheriffs: more Sheriff symbols during the round
- No Perk: ends the picking
The Bonus Trail & Getaway Spin
During Free Spins, each Sheriff symbol that lands highlights one position up the Bonus Trail. Reach a Bandit and you collect five extra spins with a multiplier: x2, x3, x5 or x10 depending on which Bandit you’ve caught.
The trail resets when the round ends. After the last spin there’s also a chance at a single Getaway Spin, a continuation in which a Sheriff symbol is guaranteed to land, though it doesn’t advance the trail.
Buy Bonus
Two buy options sit behind the Buy Feature button: standard Free Spins and Super Free Spins, which is the same round loaded with more frames, more Sheriffs and more wins. Both cost the price displayed at your current bet, and both are base-game only.
The bought rounds run at 96.05% for standard Free Spins and 96.06% for Super Free Spins, so neither buy changes the underlying return.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Sitting down at Wanted Unusual Suspects means watching a town that mostly isn’t paying you, and staying anyway, because the coins piling up on the reels belong to whoever’s still there when the Sheriff rides in. That’s the one reason to choose it: no other part of the game pays like a late Sheriff landing on a board of maxed frames.
Free Spins is where the game keeps its promise, because the frames stop being wiped after every collection and everything you’ve built finally compounds. The cost of that design is the base game, which clears your progress after each Sheriff bonus and leaves the royals paying pocket lint between visits.
It’s a good home for players who enjoy stacking a board and cashing it in one hit, and the Super buy reaches the good part without the slog. Chasers of regular line wins will find this street too quiet. For the patient, the vault is worth the wait.
