Hey you guys! Blueprint Gaming has brought back the Goonies gang for a third time in their latest instalment, The Goonies Hey You Guys!

Chunk, Mikey, Mouth, Brand, Data, and Sloth are a group of beloved characters from Steven Spielberg’s 1985 hit movie, The Goonies. Following the gang on their journey to discover One-Eyed Willy’s treasure, they quickly catch the attention of the Fratelli Crime Family where things take a dangerous turn.

To cut a long story short, it eventually worked out for The Goonies gang in the end, and after 38 years since the movie’s release, it still holds a special place in many viewers’ hearts.

The Goonies slot was first released in 2018 which proved to be a huge success with players who still hold a torch for the Goonies movie. With so much love for this slot, Blueprint Gaming decided to bring the Goonies gang back for another epic adventure in The Goonies Return, released in 2021.

The Goonies Hey You Guys Base Game and Features

The Goonies Hey You Guys is a 5-reel slot with 10 fixed pay lines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbols land from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.

The minimum bet available here is £.€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€10 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. This game has a theoretical RTP of 95.00% and a max win cap of 1,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Black Skull Flag, followed by Mikey, Mouth, and Data. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, and Jack. Wilds substitute for all other symbols except Scatters and Cash symbols.

Cash Collect

During the base game, Coin Cash symbols can land across reels 1, 2, 3, and 4. If a Sloth Collect symbol lands on reel 5, it will trigger the Cash Collect feature.

Once this happens, the Sloth Collect symbol will expand to fill the entire reel and collect all Cash values displayed on the Coin symbols. Once the Sloth Collect symbol has collected all Cash values present, a new Sloth Respin symbol will be unlocked for both the base game and Free Spins.

The Sloth Respin symbol will collect all present Cash values on Coin symbols before holding for a Respin. Additional Coin symbols that land will also be collected by the Sloth Respin symbol. Once the Sloth Respin symbol has done its job, a new Sloth Boost symbol is unlocked for both the base game and Free Spins.

The Slot Boost symbol will collect all Cash values from Coin symbols as well as a Cash Boost to the final win amount. Once the Sloth Boost symbol is complete, the final Super Collect symbol is unclocked for both the base game and Free Spins round.

The Super Collect symbol will collect all Cash values from Coin symbols present up to 10 times. Once all 4 Sloth symbols are unlocked, they will remain active in both the base game and Free Spins round from that point onwards.

Coins symbols can also reveal Jackpot Prizes. Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega Jackpot symbols have a value of 10x, 25x, 100x, and 2,000x your bet respectively.

Random Modifiers

During any random spin, Sloth can fly in and activate a random Modifer, such as additional Wilds or Hidden Treasure.

Landing 3 Bonus Scatters on reels 2, 3, and 4 during the base game triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 10 Free Spins (including a Super Spin as the final spin).

During Free Spins, all unlocked Sloth symbols will remain in play during this time. On any spin where a Sloth Collect symbol lands, it is collected and stored in a special progressive meter above the reel set. After collecting so many Sloth symbols, you will be awarded the following.

The Goonies Hey You Guys: Our Verdict

Both The Goonies and The Goonies Return are well-known for their extensive selection of Features, Modifiers, and Free Spins rounds, but Blueprint Gaming has toned things down quite a bit in The Goonies Hey You Guys, where gameplay is similar to that of D10s Maradona.

Stripping The Goonies Hey You Guys of the Key Feature may not have been the best move, which many Goonies fans may agree, but the Coin Collect feature and the single Free Spins round may be a welcoming change from those before it.

The Coin Collect feature is a gradual process, where an additional 3 Sloth symbols can be unlocked during the base game. Each Sloth symbol brings a little something extra to this feature, including Respins, Boosts, and Super Collects. Once these are active, they will remain so from that point onwards.

We were so spoilt for choice in the Free Spins round of the previous Goonies titles, which is probably why we had a hard time coming to terms with a single Free Spins round here at first. Reel Kingdom’s Big Bass series springs to mind during this round, where a number of Sloth Collect symbols are needed to trigger additional Free Spins and Multipliers.

The Goonies movie is still going strong 38 years after its release, and Blueprint Gaming is doing a brilliant job at keeping the movie alive all these years later, but what’s more surprising is that no one has created a remake or sequel to the movie…yet!
