Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash keeps almost all its money off the reels, in frames, tokens and coin values that build quietly until a single round collects the lot. Northern Lights Gaming have built a game where the 10 paylines are the least interesting thing on screen, and the real work happens in the paperwork between wins.
It’s a 5×3 grid with 10 paylines, medium volatility and a 96.09% RTP, with a hit rate of 31.73% and stakes from 0.20 to 20.00. This is the third job for the crew, following Unusual Suspects and Unusual Suspects Ultra Link&Win, and the family resemblance runs deeper than the logo. Base Game & Features
Wins pay left to right across the 10 fixed lines, with only the highest combination counting per line. If more than one winning combination lands on a single line, the top one is paid and the rest are dropped. The full ladder, scaled to the stake:

The Wild is the most valuable symbol on the board. It substitutes for everything except the Detective, Coins and Big Boss symbols, and it can form its own winning line without help.
Coins and Sticky Frames
Every Coin or Wild that lands leaves behind a x1 Sticky Frame in its position. Frames can climb to x5 and persist between spins, with progress saved per bet level. Change your stake and you change boards: each bet level keeps its own set of frames.
Coins come in two grades. Silver Coins carry up to 2.8x the bet, Gold Coins carry more than 2.8x, and a coin modifier can upgrade a Silver to Gold. Frame multipliers only apply during the two character bonuses, not to ordinary line wins.
Oversized Frames
Reels 2 and 4 each hold a fixed Oversized Frame, and the frame on reel 2 is the only place the Detective can land. When he does, he acts as a Wild, adds Coins onto any empty Sticky Frames, then collects and pays every Coin value on the reels with frame multipliers applied. All frames clear at the end of the bonus.
The reel 4 frame belongs to the Big Boss. He’s a Wild too, and he fills every Sticky Frame with Wilds, applying any winline multiplier to that winline during the bonus. It’s a base-game feature only, and the frames wipe afterwards.
Drive-By Bonus
Any spin can randomly trigger the Drive-By Bonus: an Oversized Frame respins for a shot at a Detective or Big Boss symbol, which can cascade into either character bonus or the main feature. It’s available in the base game only.
It’s also the one route to Link&Win 4Tune that doesn’t need both character symbols to land together on a normal spin. That makes it the game’s most welcome interruption.

Boost Bar
Symbols carrying a Diamond overlay feed tokens into the Boost Bar. Collect 50 and the next feature begins with a second reel set already in play. The bar resets once the boost is used, and its progress is saved per bet.
Link&Win 4Tune
Land the Detective and Big Boss on both Oversized Frames at once and the main event begins: Link&Win 4Tune, a hold-and-win round played across up to four separate reel sets. It starts with just reel set 1 active; landing a Detective and an Outlaw together on the Oversized Frames unlocks the next set.
Each unlocked reel set gets three respins on special reels containing only Coins, Detectives, Outlaws and blanks, with the count resetting to three whenever anything lands. When the respins run out, each set’s coins are totalled and multiplied by that set’s factor: x2, x3 and x5 for sets 2, 3 and 4.
Every reel set also carries its own pair of Oversized Frames, so the Detective and Outlaw can keep landing even as the round grows. Filling an entire reel set with Coins pays that set’s Jackpot:
- Reel set 1: 20x bet MINI Jackpot
- Reel set 2: 50x bet MINOR Jackpot
- Reel set 3: 500x bet MAJOR Jackpot
- Reel set 4: 5,000x bet GRAND Jackpot
Wins from the whole session are cumulative, so coins collected across all four sets add together at the end rather than replacing each other. There’s a ceiling on that arithmetic: the feature carries a win cap of 12 000x the bet, and the round ends the moment it’s reached, with anything remaining lost.
In some regions the cap doesn’t apply at all. Base game wins are never capped.
Outlaw Symbols
Outlaws land only on the reel 4 Oversized Frame during the feature, and each is a coin modifier for its reel set:
- Multiplies all Coins on the reel set by x2, x3, x5 or x10
- Multiplies one Coin by x2, x3, x5 or x10
- Increases one Coin by 0.2x to 10x bet, incrementing again on each subsequent respin (these become blue-ringed Adder Coins)
- Collects and combines all Coins on the reel set into one Coin, excluding Adder Coins
The Adder Coin is the one worth watching. Its chosen increment repeats on every respin after it lands, so a coin boosted by 1x bet at an early stage keeps growing until the set’s respins run dry. The combine Outlaw can’t touch it, which protects that growth from being collapsed back into a single value.

Two purchases are on offer. Standard Link&Win 4Tune costs the price displayed at your current bet and runs at 96.07% RTP; the Enhanced version, with more Coins and more wins, runs at 96.04%. Both buy you straight into the feature, and both cost slightly more than the base game’s return in theoretical terms.

Playing this one is a stakeout. You sit with a modest case file of small wins and slowly fill a board that only pays out when the Detective and the Big Boss finally show up together, and that’s the reason to take the job at all: four boards running at once, each worth more than the last.
The unlock system is what makes it. A good round keeps expanding right to the final respin, and the Adder Coin quietly compounding while the Outlaws multiply around it gives the feature a second layer that most hold-and-win games don’t have.
The letdown is everything before it: the paytable tops out at 20x for five Wilds, and long stretches of the base game are bookkeeping rather than tension. It’s a good fit for anyone who enjoys the gathering phase as much as the payout, and a poor one if you want the reels themselves to hand you a win worth remembering. For the patient type, the case is worth taking on.
