Reel Crown Slot Review 2023
iSoftBet are back with another Hold & Win slot with a classic fruit machine twist, in Reel Crown!
There was a time this year when all iSoftBet seemed to release was Hold & Win titles, which was either a blessing or a curse depending on the type of player you are.
Since then, iSoftBet has switched things up a bit by expanding their popular Apex Predator series with Ocean Hunter and going all out in their Twisted Tale series with gems like Musketeer Megaways and Merlins Revenge.
Reel Crown may not be the most appealing slot from iSoftBet, but the base game and Hold & Win round is choc full of exciting Reel Modifiers and Boosters that certainly up the appeal!
Reel Crown Base Game and Features
Reel Crown is a 5 reel slot with 25 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbols land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
The minimum bet available here is £/€0.25 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€250 per spin, with plenty of other betting options inbetween the two. Reel Crown has a theoretical RTP of 95.50%.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol is the Number 7, followed by Bells, Watermelon and Grapes. Low-paying symbols fall to Plums, Oranges, Lemons and Cherries. Wilds substitute for all other symbols except Scatters.
Reel Crown may not look particularly thrilling, but iSoftBet has kept gameplay exciting thanks to the Reel Modifiers feature available in the base game. More on this below!
During any random spin in the base game, 1 of 3 Reel Modifiers can be awarded. Once active, you will need to choose between 3 Mini Slot Machines to determine which Modifier you will trigger.
- Win Spin – Mystery symbols are added to the reels which will guarantee a win. Mystery symbols will transform into the same High or Low-paying symbol (excluding Scatters).
- Bonus Add – Additional Scatter symbols are added to the reels, increasing your chance of triggering the Respins Bonus. Please note that the Repsins Bonus is not guaranteed to trigger.
- Wild Reels – Between 2 and 5 Stacked Wilds will be added to the reels in random positions.
Reel Crown Hold & Win Respins
Landing 5 or more Scatters across the reels in any position triggers the Hold & Win Respins round, awarding 3 Respins. All triggering Scatters will be fixed into their current positions for the duration of the Respins round.
During the Hold & Win round, each time a new Scatter lands in view, it will remain fixed in its position for the duration of Respins and reset the respins meter back to full.
Also in play during this round is 4 Reel Boosters, each bringing something exciting to the Hold & Win round.
- Blue Booster – Collecting 3 Blue Booster symbols will unlock an additional row.
- Green Booster – Collecting 3 Green Booster symbols will increase the values of all locked Scatters.
- Red Booster – Collecting 3 Red Booster symbols will add an extra Respin onto your total amount.
- Purple Booster – Collecting 3 Purple Booster symbols will increase the current Multiplier level.
Each time a Booster symbol lands in view, the Respins Meter will be reset back to full.
Reel Crown: Our Verdict
Reel Crown takes things classical with its chic Shining King aesthetic, but the gameplay doesn’t quite follow the same inspiration as its similarly themed sister slot.
You may still recognise inspiration from another iSoftBet title though. It’s got striking similarities to the old faithful, Gold Digger.
Gold Digger was a slot about an eccentric old miner and his quest for gold. Extra Spins, bigger reels, multipliers and improved values could be won via a Hold & Win Bonus round, and that seems to be exactly what Reel Crown is.
Gold Digger was a popular title back in its day, but have things progressed too rapidly since then for Reel Crown to make the same impression? There’s certainly still a market for simplistic games with classic themes, and we enjoyed it despite having experienced the startling innovations of slots since Gold Digger hit the scene.
Some may call it unimaginative, and maybe it is, but it’s perfectly fine for a bit of fun and it certainly has potential.
